JFE Steel Plans To Replace Its Blast Furnaces With New Electric Arc Furnaces
JFE Steel said it plans to build an electric arc furnace at its Kurashiki plant in Kansai, Japan, by 2028 to replace the plant's No. 2 blast furnace and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
JFE Steel said the No. 2 blast furnace at its Cangfu plant will be overhauled in the next five to six years if it is not replaced with an electric arc furnace.
JFE Steel has eight blast furnaces in Japan, three of which are located at Kurashiki. In addition, JFE said it will maintain crude steel production of 26 million tons/year after replacing the EAF.
