Global crude steel production rose 1.5 per cent in May from a year earlier
On June 21, the World Steel Association (WSA) released global crude steel production data for May 2024. In May, the world's 71 countries and regions included in the World Steel Association statistics of crude steel production of 165.1 million tons, an increase of 1.5%. From January to May, the crude steel production of 71 countries and regions included in the World Steel Association statistics was 793 million tons, down 0.1% year-on-year.
From the world's 10 largest steel producing countries (places), in May, China's crude steel production was 92.86 million tons, an increase of 2.7%; India's crude steel production was 12.2 million tonnes, up 3.5% year-on-year. Japan's crude steel production was 7.2 million tons, down 6.3% year on year; Us crude steel production was 6.9 million tonnes, down 1.5% year-on-year; Russian crude steel production is expected to be 6.3 million tons, down 0.9% year-on-year; South Korea's crude steel production was 5.2 million tons, down 10.9% year-on-year; Iran's crude steel production was 3.3 million tons, up 2.1% year-on-year; Crude steel production in Germany was 3.2 million tonnes, down 1.9% year-on-year; Turkey's crude steel production was 3.2 million tons, an increase of 11.6%. Brazil's crude steel production is estimated at 2.6 million tonnes, down 7.4% year-on-year.
